Component Task: Giving A Health Talk to a Group of People

This is a process where the RCPN teaches and gives information to a group of people in the community, workplace or psychiatric unit on mental and general health issues. This activity helps to enlighten the group to achieve good health.

Aims

·         Promote mental and physical wellbeing

·         Create awareness on general health issues

·         Promote positive behaviours

Requirements

·         A Well-Equipped home visit bag (refer to content)

·         Community Map and or GhanaPost Global Positions System (GPS)

·         Manual/electronic area register/ records of the group

·         Means of Transportation

·         Teaching learning materials e.g. diagrams, flyers, projectors, videos etc.

Steps

·         Establish rapport by Introducing self and topic to be discussed to the group

·         Explain relevance of topic and objectives to the audience

·         Assess the knowledge base of the group on the topic by asking related questions

·         Give the talk in the form of discussion

·         Give adequate information on the topic

·         Deliver the talk with clarity

·         Deliver the talk in an audible manner

·         Maintain eye contact during the education

·         Use teaching and learning materials when applicable

·         Control audience

·         Provide time for questions and contributions

·         Provide appropriate answers to questions

·         Ask for feedback

·         Summarize the talk to the group

·         Document all procedures into the report book

·         Express appreciation for their cooperation and depart
